Cricut - someone help me decide!

I've had my Cricut Expression since January and I'm hardly using it at all... I cut letters sometimes or the occasional shape, but I don't think it's really 'me'.  So I'm starting to think seriously about selling it and getting a Grand Calibur instead - I already have a Big Shot so I'm used to that sort of machine and think I might get more use out of it.  I don't know why I'm dithering about it really... has anyone sold a Cricut and then really regretted it?  Does anyone want to buy it?!  Lol :o)  So can anyone help me decide?

  1. I have just got my cricut and I love it, I think it will take some getting used too, but I did want it mainly for lettering and numbers, I am fed up of my dinkly little sizzlitt ones lol. I also have a grand calibur (so spoilt) and I love love that muchly, the bigger nesties for it are perfect for everything!!! ATM I wouldnt be without either. Hope someone else is more helpful lol. 5. I'm another one with a Grand Calibur, which I love and use all the time, and a Big Shot, which I used to use all the time until I got my Grand Calibur! In fact I sold a lot of my Sizzix dies on Ebay and they went really well. I like the idea of a machine for cutting perfectly shaped card bases and I do object to the price of some of the Spellbinders dies, but it doesn't stop me buying them! I've never used a Cricut but if you're not using now, I would say sell it on Ebay and get yourself a Grand Calibur. I think the GC cuts the thin dies better than a Big Shot with a shim. My Cheery Lynn dies go through perfectly. xx

  6. Hi Lisa, i have got a 6" x 12" Cricut, but i dont tend to use my much, but i wouldn't get rid of it, it's handy when i want to use it. I am more of a stamper than a die cutter. Dont think i am much help to you either. Janette x

  7. ME ME ME I sold my Cricut & regreted it Lisa.. I bought a cartridge from US a MS cake one..
you can use ANY cartridge on any machine..not just the cake one..Its called Elegant Cake art..the reason I bought that one it has loads of the shapes you buy in the MS punches so you can make the shapes scrolls lace work etc ANY size just think of the price of dies for the GC..I have the B/shot & GC & Cricut yes am greedy but hey my family have grown up so no kiddos to buy for..this cartridge was £21 with P&P on US ebay..How many what dies etc can you buy with the money you get for the cricut..the grand SB are £30 a set..just add it up..

  9. Hi lisa, I had a cricut and sold it about a year ago...it was the best decision I have ever made. I rarely used it.... And when I did I had forgotten all the setting etc.I bought mine mainly for letter and numbers too. I do have a b.shot and I love it and use it regular, mind I would love a grand too.lol.I think for the amount of times we need letters and numbers on are creations we may as well use some sizzix dies ...but deffo get a grand on your christmas list and sell the cricut so you can buy some grand dies :-)
Good luck with your decision :-)

  11. I use my cricut on every card I make, I use it instead of nesties for matting and layering. Hesitated for a while before buying but know I would regret it if I sold it.

  13. I say challenge yourself first to a month of daily use and borrow some cartridges you don't have and make a card or scrap project a day for 30 days. Did you know you can even cut vinyl and decorate your car. Rethink a decision you could regret at your leisure.

  14. As you know Lisa, I love my Cricut to bits, even though it is only a little original one (bought it before they could be connected to the PC) and I would never part with it, but if you are not using it then perhaps it is time to swap it for something you know you will use :o)

  15. Hi Lisa, I haven't got a Cricut but I've got a Sihouette, which I bought before I even got my Cuttlebug, thinking I could do all on the Silhoutte that I could on the Bug and more; no doubt you can but it's fiddly by comparison I think. I'm looking at getting a Grand Calibur now as it's the same system as the Bug (I like that the edges can be embossed on the die cuts, which you just don't get on the straight cutters like Silhoutte) and it's so "available" just sitting on your work table. I suppose if don't need to sell your Cricut to finance the GC I'd sit on it for a while and see if you go to use it and if not, sell it. If you do sell, go for ebay...I LOVE ebay and buy heaps of stuff from there. Don't know if I brought up any new ideas for you to consider, but thought I'd share anyway :-) Donna

  16. Hi Lisa, don't think it will help - but wanted to add my thoughts! I've got a CraftRobo (hubby brought it as a Christmas present for me a few years ago) and it's gathering dust I use it so little. I so prefer my Cuttlebug and the nesties. I know that I've probably spent as much on them as the CraftRobo cost, but I just can't get to grips with it (even tho I'm fairly computer literate) and find it so much easier to use the 'bug.

If I could, I would sell the CraftRobo and get a Grand Calibur, really like the idea of making my own shaped card blanks, but I think hubby would have a pink fit - so for now I'm getting a few of the Go-Kreate dies and more nesties!

For what it's worth - I would say that, if it's not a case of selling one to fund the other, get the Grand Calibur and see how it goes and you can always sell the Cricut at a later date. Personally, would love a GC, not looking likely tho!

  17. Hmm, well as the owner of an Expression, a Wizard & a Squeeze, I would say don't rush if you don't have to in getting rid. I love my Wizard & Cricut equally, to me they do do enough different things to warrant having them both. I'd love a Grand Calibur but am happy to stick with my Wizard until it passes over to the other side lol! I have to confess to not getting my Cricut out often enough but it's because I'm so space challenged. For me it also has sentimental value as it was a gift & each time I use it reminds me of the most wonderful friend a girl could have...now I'm rambling, must be the day for it. My recommendation...If you want the Grand Calibur - GO FOR IT! If you don't need to sell the Cricut first, put it in it's box for 6 months & if you never need it in that time....sell it at the end, you probably never will miss it. At least you will be sure.

If you don't know why you're dithering though, you could probably get rid now & still be certain

There, that's me said enough! Will wait & see now what you decide xx

  19. Hi Lisa, it's been a long time! My cricut is sat doing the exact same as yours - nothing lol. The trouble is I don't think we would get anywhere near what we paid for them if we sold them. It's so much easier to grab a die and turn the handle - never thought I'd say that! Hope you're all well and let us know what you decide to do!

  20. Hi Lisa I am afraid I can be of no help in the matter of selling the Cricut, but I can say that the Grand Caliber is fabulous, I like you have a Cricut but it is stored away in my cupboard, I used it a lot when I first got it but eventually Nestie's took over and I now have the Cuttlebug, Big Shot and Grand Caliber, of course I need them all, lol.
