Oh dear....

Umm.... yes... ok... I realise this is a RUBBISH card... no need to soften the blow for me, it was an experiment!  I've noticed a few people playing in a challenge called One-Layer Wednesday and I honestly don't think I've ever made a one layer card, unless I've blanked them from my memory lol.  Some people are fantastic at them... I'm not one of them obviously... but some people make them look fabulous.

Anyway, I wanted to try, so I had the idea of embossing with a nestie square onto the cardstock - that bit I actually quite like.  I had these little metal presents (I should mention this week's challenge is to use something metallic) that have been sitting in my stash for a loooong time, I added a slightly smudgily embossed sentiment and some flat back pearls... and done!  I'm wondering if I should even have blogged it, it's a bit embarrassing really.  Oh well, as I said - let's call it an experiment!

  2. This is a lovely card! You underrate yourself! I very much like how things are not exactly centered --- the square is off-kilter and also not exactly in the middle of the card. I love the pearls going in two different directions. I LOVE the metal present --- it's perfect! The sentiment is just the right size. And the CS is RED. So everything is perfect, and I love your card.

  4. I felt the same way about my cards for the OLW challenge when I first started making them. I always felt I didn't have "enough" on them. I love that you used a red base, and the embossed square is awesome. I just tried that last night and I LOVE the look! And look...you even got to use up some older stash when you used that adorable metal present! All around fabulous card!

  9. Well, when I saw this my jaw dropped because I think it is stunning! I love the layout and the simplicity. I actually think CAS is the hardest type of card (especially the one layer ones) there is to do, you can hide a mulititude of mistakes under a bush of shrubbery and fussyness, but you can't hide a thing with CAS. I think you've nailed this, it is gorgeous! Wish I'd thought it up!

  10. I actually really like it Lisa! What are we crafters like? One step out of our usual comfort zone and we criticise our work unnecessarily!

I think it is really quite elegantly stylish! If you made a set of these and did them in different colours I reckon they would fly! Especially in a nice little box!

  16. The only reason you don't like it is because it's simple and you aint used to doing them. Simple is classy in a way that busy cards never can be and this is excellent :o)

  24. I love this card... it is a stunner... clean and simple. I like the KISS formula - keep it simple and stylish (I chose to get rid of stupid and replace it with stylish)!

  27. Oh well, too bad here we have a genuine artist (not a "crafter") who doesn't know she's The Real Deal. I came here for the first time, saw your card, and before reading anything thought, "Oh my, now here we have a REAL artist!" When you are so gifted, you need to practice appreciating that MOST people cannot turn out a one-layer card this perfect no matter how hard they try, but YOU can. Not only that, you made a male card which everyone says is soooo hard to do.

Or not! :-) At least now I know where to go when I want to gaze at some real art.

I don't have a blog you can look at because I am a "crafter" having fun, not an artist by any stretch, grateful that you share your talent so I can enjoy looking.

  28. After staring at your card for a very long time and searching for the "rubbish" part of it I give it up: this card is a dream! I visited a few blogs today and I am so happy that I just clicked the "Older Posts" -Button at your blog so that I could have a look at this card. I think, it's my favourite card of the day. Super clean, only a few element but in a perfect layout.
